DONOVAN DILLON
Jack Milner: Jockey Donovan Dillon has been in excellent form of late and has been churning out winners in KwaZulu-Natal.
In fact, from 1 December Dillon tops the table in KZN with 17 wins in the province during that period. Of course, he was assisted by the mid-December move to Lockdown Level 3, which restricted the movement of jockeys, but you still have to ride the winners and Dillon did just that.
When he has been given opportunities he has taken them and delivered the goods, none more so than his excellent ride on Golden Ducat when he got up on the line to touch off Rainbow Bridge in the Grade 1 Champions Cup at Greyville in August.
He could provide bettors with both a best bet and value bet at Greyville on Wednesday when they race on the Polytrack.
In Race 1 he will ride Alwaysonmymind for trainer Peter Muscutt and this could be a very hard horse to beat. The only threat looks to be Good Girl, and an Exacta with the pair could be worth taking.
The only doubt about the chances of Alwaysonmymind is this is her first run on the Polytrack.
In Race 4 Dillon is aboard Super Fluke for Kom Naidoo. This is a MR 68 Handicap for fillies and mares over 1600m and the 8-1 on offer in early betting makes her a decent eachway bet.
After two good thirds, her penultimate a 0.55-length third behind Alfonse Baby over this course and distance against stronger company, she was given a rest.
The daughter of Querari came back in December. She ran against both Wishful Girl Lin and Tupelo Honey who are the respective favourite and second favourite for this race, but was drawn No 11 of the 12 runners and failed to overcome the draw. She raced wide around the turn and the Dillon had to make a lot of use of her to get her to the front.
It came as no surprise she had nothing in the tank late in the race and faded out.
This time Super Fluke is well drawn at No 5, will improve with that last run under her belt and will fully test both Wishful Girl Lin and Tupelo Honey.
A Trifecta with the three could reap dividends.
