Denemethy appeals back at Market Rasen

Fergal O'Brien's Denemethy can come out on top in the Visit racingtv.com Handicap Chase at Market Rasen on Tuesday.

The seven-year-old was a course-and-distance winner in a similar contest on Boxing Day and has been placed in both of his outings since at Exeter and Leicester.

Those races were at a slightly higher grade and he drops back to class four company at Market Rasen, where he carries 76.2kg from his rating of 120.

His form at the Lincolnshire course stands him in good stead, however, and as an imposing type, he should cope with the burden.

Wellington Arch carries a 7-point penalty for December's Carlisle success in the Join Racing TV Now Novices' Hurdle but still sets a strong standard.

The six-year-old followed up that convincing victory by making odds-on favourite Fingle Bridge work hard to win at this venue - and that one has since franked the form by beating Regent's Stroll in fine style at Exeter.

Hold Up La Colmine has had two runs back since a lengthy lay-off and looks ready to go well in the Every Race Live On Racing TV Handicap Chase.

After fading late on to finish fifth at Hexham, he was a rather unlucky third at Windsor, where he hit the front jumping the final fence but was then hampered on the run-in by a loose horse, albeit the eventual winner Hasthing did fairly fly home.

There is an interesting contender on the all-weather during Newcastle's afternoon card, where Stardrop makes his debut for James Owen in the Extra Winnings With BetUK Acca Club Novice Stakes.

The Ulysses colt is out of the 2012 Guineas runner-up Starscope, the same dam who produced Cheveley Park's star mare Inspiral.

Cheveley Park-bred Stardrop, who was purchased by the Gredley Family for 160,000 guineas at the 2022 Tattersalls Book One yearling sale, is in the capable hands of Owen.

He sees a racecourse for the first time at Newcastle and is very much worth keeping an eye on as Sean D Bowen takes the ride.

William Dewhirst has won six of his last eight races for Ben Haslam and can further enhance that impressive record in the Weekly Free Bets With BetMGM Extra Handicap.

The five-year-old carries a 5-point penalty for last week's narrow course and distance success but that form looks strong, as he edged out the hat-trick seeking Barnaby.

At Southwell, Owen has a real chance in High Court Judge, who contests division one of the £30 In Free Bets With BetUK Handicap.

The five-year-old's third-placed run at Wolverhampton last time was the end of a winning streak that had included five consecutive races, but he was not beaten far and can return to winning ways. - Press Association
