Mike and Mathew de Kock have some promising two-year-olds in action at Turffontein on Thursday when they race on the Inside track and the father and son team and should come away with a couple of winners.
Schipole may have fluffed her lines on debut, but she certainly turned it around in her next outing.
After running an absolute shocker on debut, the One World filly proved that race all wrong in her second outing, jumping out well and never giving her opposition a chance. She went on to beat Daisy Jones by two lengths. Both of her first two races were over 1400m on the Standside track.
She will line up in Race 1, a Juvenile Plate for fillies over 1600m, and one feels that she could be even better on the Inside track, especially that in her two previous races she jumped from wide draws but this time she will be perfectly positioned in gate No 2.
Callan Murray has ridden her in her two earlier starts and he will be back in the irons this time.
De Kock-trained Gimmeforsure, on the other hand, was well fancied on debut and rock solid in the betting exchanges. This well-related daughter of Gimmethegreenlight was sent off at 22-10 and duly delivered for her supporters under Murray over 1000m on the Standside track.
She reappears over the same distance in Race 7, a MR 79 Handicap for fillies and mares over 1000m, with Muzi Yeni in the irons. She will have just 53.5kg on her back, so is also worth a confident punt on the nose.
The De Kocks’ charge faces several lightly raced three-year-old rivals and other hard-knockers but given the manner of her debut success - albeit in juvenile company - over male rivals, any natural improvement from Gimmeforsure will likely land her back in the winner’s enclosure.
