Davis to Speed home

Speed Davis looked fairly useful when winning a bumper at the second attempt for Donald McCain and he can make the perfect start over timber in the Download The Raceday Ready App Maiden Hurdle at Catterick on Monday.

Having won a point-to-point there were high hopes for him when he headed to Kelso for his debut last April.

However, despite being sent off the 2-1 favourite he could finish only sixth.

Given plenty of time to get over that he did not run again until Sedgefield in January where he looked a different proposition, easily winning by 5 lengths.

Given he is six it is no surprise McCain wants to get him started over hurdles despite being at this stage of the season and he should handle the ground no problem.

Val Dancer's form has worked out well suggesting the hat-trick beckons in the Jumping For Joy On Racing TV Novices' Handicap Chase.

Having won at Leicester by 16 lengths, he was raised 8lb but that was nowhere nearly enough as he comfortably accounted for Shighness at Wetherby.

That one has since come out and won at Catterick off 3lb higher so even though Val Dancer has been raised another 7lb, he is clearly progressing quickly.

Omar Maretti ran better than his finishing position suggested last time and merits respect in the Racing TV Profits Returned To Racing Handicap Chase.

After a couple of hurdles spins, Alex Hales sent the 10-year-old back over fences at Haydock where upped to an extended 5600m, he just did not appear to stay on very testing ground.

Hales moves back to 4800m now and Omar Maretti could have things in his favour to snap a two-year losing streak.

Venetia Williams' Hill Of Tara has won four out of five this season and despite rising 27lb in the process, his progress shows no sign of stopping.

Admittedly he began the campaign off a basement rating of 80 at Ffos Las in November and bar a defeat at Southwell when possibly finding his third run in two weeks too much, he has answered every call.

His most recent outing at Hereford saw him absolutely bolt up and despite being hit with a 15lb rise, he is still the one to side with in the Tie The Knot Wedding Catering Conditional Jockeys' Handicap Hurdle at Plumpton.

HMS President is going hurdling late in life for Alan King but is with the right man.

The seven-year-old was way above average on the Flat with a rating of 101 so if he takes to the winter game he could be useful.

He was last seen in the Ebor, for which he was quietly fancied but he finished last and has not been seen since, suggesting there was a problem.

Runner-up in the Mallard at Doncaster and in the Duke Of Edinburgh at Royal Ascot, he is quite an exciting recruit.

Endless Victory makes his first start in the BetMGM: It's Showtime Novice Stakes at Wolverhampton.

Trained by Charlie Appleby, the colt is a full brother to 2018 Melbourne Cup hero Cross Counter, so you would expect him to need further than this extended 1800m in due course.

However, Cross Counter had enough speed early in his three-year-old campaign to win at this distance and Endless Victory may do too. - Press Association
