Crawford filly in the pink of condition at Kenilworth
December 2020
Jack Milner: Trainer Brett Crawford comes up with a semi-precious gem at Kenilworth in Wednesday.
He saddles promising three-year-old Pink Tourmaline in the final event on the eight-race card and she lines up in a MR 84 Handicap for fillies and mares over 2000m.
She is by Futura, without question one of the best horses Crawford ever had the honour to train. The son of Dynasty won both the Met and the Queen’s Plate while in his care and although unlikely to reach those heights, she looks to be a filly with a bright future.
She has only raced four times, and after running unplaced over 1400m on debut, Pink Tourmaline improved in her next outing to finish second behind subsequent winner Marina before opening her own account over 1800m next time out.
Pink Tourmaline reverted to 1600m in her last start and probably did not enjoy racing up front in a four-horse field. She was beaten into second place by Dazzling Sun, but it was no disgrace as the winner will be lining up in Saturday’s Grade 1 WSB Cape Fillies Guineas over 1600m.
As a result, Crawford’s charge can be confidently supported to give a better account of herself in this sterner test of stamina from a favourable No 3 draw. Craig Zackey takes the ride on this occasion.
Crawford and Anton Marcus teamed up to win with well-bred Dynasty filly Walk Of Fame two weeks ago and they could repeat that feat in Race 6 over 1200m.
Walk Of Fame ran out a 2.25-length winner in her second start when fitted with blinkers for the first time and there is undoubtedly more to come from this well-related three-year-old.
