Content packed with Yorkshire Oaks promise

August 2024

Content can turn around Curragh form with You Got To Me and claim Group One glory in the Pertemps Network Yorkshire Oaks at York on Thursday.

Just 0.75-lengths split the pair in the Irish Oaks, with You Got To Me enjoying first run on her Aidan O'Brien-trained rival, who had to wait for a gap before launching her challenge.

Having her first try at 2400m after a couple of unsuccessful 1600m runs and a Pretty Polly third over 2000m, Content kept on all the way to the line and was never closer than at the finishing post.

There is clearly very little between these two fillies and granted an extra bit of luck in running this time, Content has the ability to make her mark at the top level.

Celandine is worth a try as she moves back up to 1200m in the Sky Bet Lowther Stakes.

Twice a winner over the distance previously, including when impressing in the Listed Empress Stakes at Newmarket, Celandine then finished a creditable third in the Group Two Prix Robert Papin before looking tapped for toe when dropped to the minimum distance at Goodwood.

Beaten just over 2-lengths by Big Mojo in the Molecomb, Celandine's fourth place was still a decent effort and the 1200m course at York looks sure to suit Ed Walker's charge.

Sea Just In Time is the pick for the British EBF & Sir Henry Cecil Galtres Stakes.

Trainer William Haggas won the Listed heat with Sea Theme in 2023 and this year's choice boasts fine credentials having recently returned to winning form.

An impressive Newmarket winner on her racecourse debut in May, any half-thoughts of an Irish Oaks run were ended when she suffered an odds-on defeat in Listed company at Goodwood at the start of June.

Haggas gave her plenty of time to get over that outing, with the filly returning to the track at Kempton at the start of the month, winning cosily when upped to 2400m to give her a good confidence boost for this contest.

Maw Lam can give trainer Adrian Nicholls his biggest payday yet in the Harry's Half Million By Goffs Premier Yearling Stakes.

The near £250,000 first prize is quite the draw and while Arizona Blaze sets the standard in form terms, Maw Lam enjoys a hefty pull in the weights with her biggest rivals.

She too has shown plenty of ability in Group company, finishing third in the Queen Mary at Ascot and fifth in the Duchess of Cambridge before a narrow defeat as favourite for a Listed contest in France.

Beaten just a head and a nose at Deauville at the start of the month, a repeat of that might be good enough. - Press Association
