Conditions suit Prince Of Taranto

The meeting at Hollywoodbets Greyville on Wednesday looks quite competitive but Prince Of Taranto stands out in Race 7, a MR 91 Handicap over 1600m. He was a bit unlucky not to beat Polytrack specialist Proud Master over 1400m three runs back and then was touched off by up-and-coming youngster Strawberry Bear when the pace didn’t suit.

His last run was a decent third behind talented Celestial City last time and he looks well placed to notch up another win. Muzi Yeni takes the ride aboard Tony Rivalland’s charge.

There are also some hard-knocking horses with good barrier draws and they could finally find the No 1 box.

Race 1, a Maiden Plate for fillies and mares over 1000m, appears competitive although Arverni Princess could be too good. She has finished ahead of winners Princess Arlowe, Baby Love, Miss Arlberg, and Zariyah who won a thriller recently. She should really be running in handicaps by now.

She has been costly to follow as she has been backed in two of her four starts without getting the job done but that is just another pointer to what she shows back home. She has also finished ahead of main rival Jane’s Vision and given that she jumps from the best of the draws in gate No 1 makes her hard to beat.

The last time Flying The Star ran over the 1000m on the Polytrack she won. While she has won over 1200m she is arguably best over 1000m. If her penultimate (on the Polytrack) was over 1000m Blushing Dawn might not have caught her. Last time she flew up and almost troubled Hereinafter for the second cheque back over 1000m but that was up the straight at Hollywoodbets Scottsville.

Flying The Star has drawn in gate No 2 in Race 2, a MR 69 Handicap for fillies and mares and to boost her chances further she has Rachel Venniker in the irons. She might only be able to claim 1kg of her 1.5kg to make the weight but that is still enough to give her mount a major advantage.
