Jack Milner: Punters should note that today’s Vaal race meeting has been moved to the Turffontein Standside track following early morning gallops.
Off times remain the same, but Race 7 will now be run over 1600m.
This change of venue should suit Cold Fact to a T as she could not have been more impressive when winning the first “baby” race of the season at Turffontein.
The two-year-old daughter of What A Winter flew out of the gates and none of the others got a blow-in as she went on to win by 2.75 lengths.
The manner of the victory came as no surprise to trainer Paul Peter as she was showing them excellent work at home.
Cold Fact will open Thurday’s meeting as she lines up in Race 1, a Juvenile Plate over 1000m, and is confidently expected to add a second win to her tally.
She does have to take on the colts and will no longer be able to get off the 4kg apprentice claim as Gabriel Pieterse has returned to the SA Jockey Academy in KwaZulu-Natal due to the restrictions on movement brought about by the lockdown.
However, Craig Zackey’s runner has been scratched and he has picked up the ride on Cold Fact.
Kay Tee Perry may have been ‘gifted’ a victory when she lines up in Race 2, a MR 88 Handicap for fillies and mares over 1600m.
Three-year-olds Chloris and Magical Flight both ran on Tuesday at the Vaal with the latter winning Race 4 and the former finishing in fourth. Chloris has already been scratched but Sean Tarry has left Magical Flight in the field. Magical Flight will now carry 54.5kg That makes this a race in two between Johan Janse van Vuuren-trained Kay Tee Perry and Magical Flight, who obviously pulled up well.
De Kock-trained Mezuzah wasn’t disgraced in his first run as a gelding last time and looks a Pick 6 banker in Race 4, a Maiden Plate over 1000m, in his third outing.
The What A Winter three-year-old was slowly away, hung in over the final 300m and was still just touched off by Tiki Taka. With a little more experience, he should make amends.
