Ciara Pearl looks Nottingham gem

May 2025

Ciara Pearl can stamp her class on the Dine In Sherwoods Restaurant Fillies' Handicap at Nottingham on Tuesday.

Daniel and Claire Kubler's five-year-old mare has been a real stable favourite over the last couple of years.

A six-time winner, she has more than repaid her 20,000 pound purchase price and has twice come up just short in search of black type when finishing fifth.

One of those attempts came on her most recent outing in the Nottinghamshire Oaks when fifth to Ambiente Amigo.

Given she is rated 87, she was punching above her weight a little there, but even though she is conceding weight all round, she looks the class act in this field.

War Howl is having just his second start for Mick Appleby in the Watch On Racing TV Handicap and there is every reason to believe it will be a winning one.

Bought for just 20,000 guineas out of Brian Meehan's yard by the shrewd Horse Watchers syndicate, he was a fair third of nine to Tuco Salamanca at Newcastle.

The winner is now rated 9lb higher due to a cracking run on Finals Day, yet War Howl was dropped 1lb for his effort.

William Haggas' horses generally improve a good deal for their first run, which makes Earthwatch of definite interest in the Family Fun Raceday Sunday June 1st June Novice Stakes.

He was only fourth of five on his debut at Redcar but the winner, Romieu, ran a blinder in a red-hot handicap at York last week.

Slowly away there, Earthwatch will be much sharper for that experience and he looks an interesting type for his in-form trainer.

David O'Meara's In A Hurry did everything right at Ayr last time out but was nabbed on the line.

Given that was her first outing for almost a year, she will surely take a step forward in the Download The Racecourse App Raceday Ready Restricted Maiden Fillies' Stakes at Lingfield.

The Time Test filly had finished second on her debut but then clearly met with an issue to be off for so long.

Whatever it was, it is now behind her as she looked the winner everywhere bar the last 50 yards at Ayr, despite being weak in the market.

Ollie Sangster's Profit Refused looked ahead of the handicapper when winning first time out for new connections.

Bought out of Kevin Prendergast's yard for E45,000, she comfortably defied a mark of 78 at Wetherby.

Now up to 82, she could quite easily follow up in the Redinet's Rocket Handicap.

Nicky Henderson runs interesting newcomer Eremenko in the Join Southwell Golf Club Open National Hunt Flat Race at Southwell.

Owned by Kenny Alexander, just like stablemate Doddiethegreat, she is closely related to that Pertemps Final winner.

Jamie Snowden's Hardy Du Seuil should prove a cut above his rivals in the Port Of Blyth Handicap Hurdle at Hexham. - Press Association
