Cherry Oh Baby stands out in KZN

The De Kock stable have five runners in action at Hollywoodbets Greyville on Friday and they must have a fair chance of coming away with a winner or two.

Mike and Mathew de Kock have had a decent enough start since the partnership was formed on 1 February and in fact, came away with a victory in the Grade 2 Wilgerbosdrift Gauteng Fillies Guineas on their very first day.

Of their five runners at Greyville’s day/night meeting, the pick of the quintet looks to be Cherry Oh Baby in Race 4, a Maiden Plate over 1800m.

This well-bred four-year-old filly might be taking on the boys in this event but she has a lot in her favour. Firstly, she does get a 3.5kg sex allowance and that makes her the best weighted runner by at least 3kg. She is perfectly drawn in gate No 4 and she has finished runner-up in her last three starts.

This is her first go at 1800m but based on her breeding she should be crying out for this, if not even further, as she is by Danon Platina out of Wilgerbosdrift Triple Tiara winner Cherry On The Top.

She showed up well in her last start but was beaten by a highly promising One World gelding in Sean Tarry-trained Satyagraha.

The field she meets this time is not particularly imposing nd she looks the standout bet at the meeting.

Unfortunately, Gavin Lerena, who is carded to ride her, was stood down at the Vaal on Thursday and will not be riding at the meeting.
