Chancellor to take charge at Kempton

Chancellor can continue his resurgence with a first pattern race success in the Unibet Hyde Stakes at Kempton on Monday.

The son of Kingman was considered a potential Classic contender after winning two of his three juvenile starts, but his temperament got the better of him in the Champagne Stakes at Doncaster as he broke out of the stalls before the off and was unable to take part.

Having failed to get involved in either the Greenham at Newbury or the King Charles II Stakes at Newmarket on his first couple of outings as a three-year-old, Chancellor was gelded and underwent wind surgery and was not seen in competitive action again until reappearing over 1400m here four weeks ago.

Making his handicap and all-weather debut, John and Thady Gosden's charge showed his class with a strong-finishing effort to get up and claim victory in the dying strides and while he faces a step up in class for this Listed contest, he remains open to further improvement.

Shipbourne puts his unbeaten record and tall reputation on the line in the Unibet 3 Uniboosts A Day/EBF Novice Stakes.

Regally-bred as the son of two Guineas winners in Frankel and Special Duty, Ralph Beckett's youngster was an odds-on shot for his debut at Newbury in late October and duly delivered with a runaway success.

It is interesting connections have decided to turn him out again so late in the year, presumably keen to give him some more experience before perhaps testing the water in a Guineas trial in the spring.

It will be a major surprise if he does not make it two from two before having his sights raised in the new year.

Senor Cortez is the pick in the Make The Move To Midnite Handicap at Wolverhampton.

Twice a winner for Robert Eddery in August, he then transferred to the care of Darryll Holland, returning from a 50-day break to finish third in a competitive heat at Nottingham in October.

He has dropped a further 1lb in the ratings since then and Jack Callan's 5lb claim should also aid his cause.

Upon Tweed made quite an impression on his debut over obstacles and can follow up in the Western House Hotel Vouchers For Christmas Novices' Hurdle at Ayr.

He won his sole bumper start last term by 8.5-lengths and he struck by the same distance when making his first hurdles start over this course and distance at the start of November.

The five-year-old was certainly not foot perfect that day but still won with ease and looks open to any amount of improvement, with trainer Nicky Richards suitably impressed and hoping to graduate to better company in due course.

National Hunt fare also takes place at Plumpton, where King Of Highways should go well in the Accelerating Innovation Conditional Jockeys' Handicap Chase.

There was plenty of encouragement to be taken from this five-year-old's third place finish on his handicap and chasing debut at Lingfield a fortnight ago and given that was his first outing since January he should strip fitter for the run. - Press Association
