Catterick hat-trick beckons for One Of Our Own

WITH no local racing in South Africa on Monday, all eyes will be on the UK, where TAB will be betting on four meetings – Catterick, Worcester, Yarmouth, and Windsor.

At Catterick, One Of Our Own can secure a third victory in Race 3, a 1200m Class 6 Handicap.

Rated as high as 73 a couple of seasons ago, the Rebecca Menzies-trained filly dropped to a mark in the mid-50s this term, which has allowed her to rediscover the winning thread.

After running a couple of sound races in defeat, One Of Our Own lunged late to strike gold over this course and distance last month and after a decent effort at Leicester next time, she again showed her liking for Catterick once more when scoring with something to spare a fortnight ago.

She has been raised 5lb ahead of her latest assignment in North Yorkshire, but that may not be enough to prevent her from following up in current form.

Earlier, Liberated Lad is also expected to continue his profitable campaign in the card opener, a 2400m Class 5 Handicap.

The six-year-old has won three of his last five starts for Ben Brookhouse and arrives here chasing a hat-trick following July triumphs at Nottingham and Wolverhampton.

He is clearly trip versatile, given those wins came over 2000m and 2800m respectively, so this 2400m will hold no fears and he remains feasibly handicapped on the best of his form.

Bulmer Bank would not be winning out of turn if he can claim the final event, a Class 6 Handicap over 1400m.

Mick and David Easterby's three-year-old has not really run a bad race since entering the handicap sphere and has been placed in his last three outings.

On his most recent outing he filled the runner-up spot at Newcastle behind Titanium, who has run well enough since, while the third placed Mulciber was only narrowly denied on his next start at Pontefract.

Bulmer Bank does have a tendency to run a little keen and has found trouble in running on a couple of occasions in late, but he certainly has the ability to win off his current mark if things fall right.

Roger Varian's No Retreat looks at interesting proposition in Race 3 at Windsor, a 2000m Maiden Stakes.

On his only start to date he was beaten just a neck by Kevin Ryan's Sisyphean, now rated 92, at Newcastle.

The second, Native King, has won since but No Retreat was an odds-on favourite that day, suggesting he is thought of very highly.

Connections of Back In Black will surely be disappointed if he is unable to make it third time lucky in Race 2 at Yarmouth, a Maiden Stakes over 1400m.

James Fanshawe's grey has contested valuable races at York and Ascot on his first couple of outings and has on both occasions picked up the silver medal.

This race represents a drop in class for the son of Dark Angel and one of the newcomers will have to be well above average to deny him victory.

This is traditionally the time of year Peter Bowen does well and nothing has changed now his son Michael has joined him on the licence.

Flying Fortune has already won this summer and could defy a penalty in Race 4 at Worcester, a 4000m Novices' Hurdle. - Press Association
