Carryover betting boon kicks off at Vaal

Punters are in for a great weekend of carryovers so there will be plenty betting options with lucrative rewards.

The big one is the Pick 6 carryover at Saturday’s Hollywoodbets Greyville which will see the running of the Grade 1 Daily News 2000 and Woolavington 2000 for fillies and mares. R1-million will kick off the Pick 6 with pool likely to reach R6 million.

But there is plenty more for bettors, starting off with a R200,000 carryover to Jackpot One at the Vaal on Thursday, with a likely pool of R750,000.

The same applies to Jackpot One at both Fairview on Friday and Hollywoodbets Kenilworth on Sunday – R200,000 carryover with a likely pool of R750,000.

Jackpot One will be on Races 5 to 8 at all three meetings.

It always helps to have a banker in any Exotic bet and trainer Joe Soma can get punters off to a winning start in tomorrow’s Jackpot One where he sends out Sword Of Mercy in Race 5, a Maiden Plate over 2000m.

He has only raced four times and has improved with each run, especially as the distance of the races increased.

Last time he raced over 2000m on the Vaal Classic track and finished a 0.50-length second behind Quantifier.

He runs over the same distance this time and comes into the race as the best weighted runner by at least 3.5kg.

The form was franked when fifth-placed Wonderworld came out to win his next start and that form line has relevance in this race as Williamson finished a one-length second. Stephen Moffatt’s runner has been priced up second favourite in this event but on a line through Wonderworld, who finished 5.50 lengths behind Sword Of Mercy, does look well held.

S’manga Khumalo, who rode Soma’s runner last time, will be back aboard once again.

Despite coming back from a 168-day layoff, Twice The Storm could provide the best value when he runs in Race 6, a MR 82 Handicap over 1200m.

Trained by Sean Tarry, three-year-old Twice The Storm will be making his first appearance as a gelding. Considering that he boasts seven top-three finishes, including two wins, in his short career, there is no denying his competitiveness nor his class.

Kabelo Matsunyane has won on him and he takes the ride again.
