Candice, Aldo to hold the Kenilworth key

November 2024

The combination of Candice Bass-Robinson and Aldo Domeyer is strongly represented throughout the eight-race card at Hollywoodbets Kenilworth on Tuesday, and it would come as quite a surprise for them to go home empty handed.

Marine Merchant exceeded market expectations on debut at HWB Durbanville, finishing third over 1250m at 25-1. He proved it was no fluke and confirmed the promise of that introduction by finishing third over 1600m in his only subsequent outing.

Domeyer takes over the reins from Anthony Andrews, who rode this Captain Of All colt on both occasions, in Race 5 over 1400m and Bass-Robinson's charge need not improve a great deal to open his account at the third attempt.

Callmegetrix is reunited with Domeyer, under whom she achieved her last career victory, in Race 6 over 1400m. This consistent course-and-distance suited daughter of Vercingetorix has won twice and finished third in three starts under Domeyer.

She renews rivalry with last-start conqueror Fatal Gem on 1.5kg better terms for a length beating, so she is weighted to turn the tables.

Ideally positioned in stall No 1 with Domeyer back aboard, Callmegetrix will give her supporters a good run for their money and she would not be winning out of turn.

Nor would English Mistress, a Master Of My Fate filly whose breakthrough maiden victory is long overdue.

She has finished second and third three times each in six associations with Domeyer, which include back-to-back recent thirds at Durbanville with cheekpieces fitted. She was dropped out from a wide draw before running on strongly from a long way back to finish a nose behind re-opposing Lavender Bay over 1600m last time out but, on the evidence of that performance, the extra 200m in Race 8 from a favourable No 3 gate is likely to swing their rematch in favour of English Mistress.
