Candice, Aldo set for a Cape double

Candice Bass-Robinson may be going into this year’s Cape summer season without her star colt Charles Dickens, but the stable looks to have some very decent stock in the yard and they should be in for a bounty of winners over the next few months.

The yard looks sure to pick up a couple of winners at Hollywoodbets Kenilworth on Wednesday when she will saddle 10 runners on the nine-race card.

The best on the day looks to be Masterofthedesert who really stands out in Race 3, an Open Maiden over 1400m. The Master Of My Fate gelding has placed in his last four starts and last time out he was well supported to triumph in his first run after being gelded. While he did look dangerous heading into the closing stages of the race over 1200m, he had little to come at the end and finished fourth, but beaten just 1.10 lengths.

He may have just needed his first run after gelding but he also was drawn very wide in a big field which is sometimes not the ideal place to be in races up the straight at Kenilworth. He will also be a lot better over 1400m which was the distance of his penultimate start at Hollywoodbets Durbanville where he was only beaten 0.40 lengths into second by Water Dragon.

This is not the strongest field around and although he has to carry 60kg and will have to give weight to some of his rivals, he does look to be the best runner in the field.

Domeyer will also be aboard Diamond Bomber in Race 4, a Maiden Plate for fillies and mares over 1600m and she also looks ready to pick up her first race. This daughter of Lancaster Bomber has finished runner-up in her last two races and comes into this event as the best weighted runner and so looks hard to oppose.
