Blenheim Star should be shining again at Brighton

August 2024

Blenheim Star can again demonstrate her love for Brighton in the Carlsberg Danish Pilsner Brighton Mile Challenge Handicap on Wednesday.

The Churchill filly was third and seventh over 1400m at Kempton but it was when stepped up to 1600m that she showed her true worth.

She won over 1600m at the first time of asking to break her maiden, scoring by 1.75-lengths over First Encounter at Ripon when being eased down.

The William Knight-trained runner then backed it up on her first trip to the Sussex course when again winning when eased down to beat Red Cloud by 0.75-lengths under a penalty.

She disappointed next time out when seventh of 11 at Bath, but showed that was only a blip with a winning return to Brighton when she was held up before being pushed along to come home by a comfortable 3.5-lengths.

She was second at Epsom after a 7lb rise when last seen, but that race was not run to suit and a return to Brighton can see her make it three from three on the south coast.

Three Dons can make it four wins in a row in the starsports.bet Handicap.

The five-year-old has relished the switch to turf after a campaign on the all-weather over the early part of the year.

After winning once in 30 races he then went on to win four of his next five starts.

A step up to 2000m worked a treat at Leicester in the hands of 7lb claimer Molly Gunn before a third-place finish at Bath.

Gunn was also in the plate for a winning return to Leicester and that has since been followed by wins at Lingfield and Brighton, the latter with Cieren Fallon doing the steering.

And the return to Brighton can be a winning one with Gunn again taking a valuable 7lb off.

Godsend can defy a 6lb penalty in the Napoleons Casino Bradford Handicap at Pontefract.

The son of Nathaniel was gelded over the winter and started his season with a moderate sixth on the all-weather at Lingfield, his first start at 2400m.

He then broke his maiden at Ripon pulling away from Honrado to win by 3.25-lengths.

A second at Ffos Las was followed by a another step up in trip to 2800m, one that saw him comfortably come out on top at Salisbury and then back at the Welsh track.

Trying 3200m plus now he has the hat-trick there for the taking, with Sir Mark Prescott's string going nicely.

Patontheback can put a disappointing effort at York behind him in the Riu Hotels And Resorts Ladies Day Veterans' Handicap.

The Gemma Tutty-trained six-year-old scored at Catterick and Musselburgh before seconds at Beverley and Thirsk.

He was 17th of 17 last time out on the Knavesmire but can show that was merely a blip and book a return to the winner's enclosure.

Elizabeth Bay can break her maiden at the second time of asking in the British Stallion Studs EBF Maiden Fillies' Stakes at Yarmouth.

She was fourth on debut at Newbury, beaten only 2-lengths and the Jane Chapple-Hyam trained filly can come on for that run in the hands of Hollie Doyle. - Press Association
