Big task at
Swallows
for Dylan
By Mark Gleeson
Dylan Kerr was a terror on the pitch in his days as a youthful import from Yorkshire for Pretoria club Arcadia and went back to England to win the league on the books of Leeds United.
Kerr played until his late 30s for a variety of clubs in the lower leagues in England and then Scotland‚ where he won a cup medal with Kilmarnock before hanging up his boots and embarking on his coaching badges.
He did his UEFA A license in the same class with Jose Mourinho in Scotland and got his first coaching job in the USA before returning to South Africa to work as an assistant to his former teammate Sammy Troughton at Mpumalanga Black Aces‚ Thanda Royal Zulu and Nathi Lions.
Kerr branched out on his own in 2011 to become coach of Hai Phiong in Vietnam‚ Simba in Tanzania and then Gor Mahia of Kenya‚ who he took to the group phase of the African Confederation Cup in 2018.
He returned to South Africa in 2018 to help Black Leopards escape relegation and then won the Nedbank Cup last season with Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila. Now he is tasked with saving Swallows FC from the drop as they sit precariously close to the bottom. And he will know it’s vital they win their match away to fellow strugglers Maritzburg United tonight. The match is included in TAB pools like Soccer 6 and 10.
