Be Impetuous in the Cape

An interesting but highly competitive Cape B Stakes over 1800m tops the card at Hollywoodbets Durbanville on Wednesday and it could be a wise move for bettors to load the race in the exotics.

As expected, trainer Justin Snaith holds a strong hand with three runners, all three of which have winning claims.
Future Turn looks the pick of the three as he is in top form, having won three of his last five starts and finished third in the other two.

He also has good form at the course having run there four times for a win, two seconds and a fourth. He is also nicely drawn at No 3, another vital factor at this course, and interestingly, will be ridden by Aldo Domeyer.

Gareth van Zyl has brought a runner down from KwaZulu-Natal and if Natyam can replicate the form of his last two races on the Polytrack, he will also be a force in this race. In this regard it is worth noting that Van Zyl has engaged Richard Fourie to ride the lightly raced four-year-old son of Noble Tune.

However, there could be some excellent value going along with Vaughan Marshall-trained Impetuous.

Yes, he did run a shocker last time but perhaps a line needs to be drawn through that performance. He came from being rested and gelded for his penultimate race and romped to a runaway 5.75-length victory over Promettere in a 1600m race at Kenilworth and then was sent off at 5-2 to win his next start. However, he ran poorly and finished 21.60 lengths behind Top Quality. He was checked out by the course vet who could find nothing wrong, but the going was very heavy that day and he was reported not to have acted in the going.

It was also his second run after gelding which does sometimes trouble horses.

The son of Willam Longsword is a lot better than that effort and from No 2 draw he could provide good each-way value and could make the Quartet pay.

Craig Bantam has the ride.

Another runner worth following on the day is Boogiefield in Race 9. This son of American Triple Crown winner Justify out of Sabine Plattner’s homebred Grade 3-winning mare Love To Boogie (by Trippi), was heavily backed when making his debut over 1000m at Hollywoodbets Kenilworth last month and justified that betting confidence (10-1 into 3-1) by finishing second to Meu Capitano.

He subsequently confirmed the promise of that encouraging introduction with an all-the-way success at Durbanville last time out and can follow up for trainer Andre Nel and jockey Corne Orffer.
