It might be a midweek meeting at Hollywoodbets Kenilworth on Wednesday but there is a lot of interest with the running of the Grade 3 Winter Nursery over 1100m.
As has so often been the case of late Candice Bass-Robinson has a strong hand in this feature with three runners, all of which have a chance.
She sends out Distant Winter, Future Variety and October Morn and all three are lightly raced.
Distant Winter was runner-up in both the Listed Summer Juvenile Stakes and the Grade 3 Cape Of Good Hope Nursery, the latter of which was won by highly talented Winter Cloud.
All form points to her winning again because she and Future Variety both went on to shed their maidens on the same day with Distant Winter putting up a much faster time and comes into this race with a 2.5kg sex allowance.
However, jockey arrangements may indicate something different as Aldo Domeyer, who rode Distant Winter in her last two starts, is aboard Future Variety. He does weigh in at 58kg and Distant Winter is carded to carry 57.5kg, which could explain it.
Nevertheless, Future Variety has only raced twice and both form lines have produced winners so it could be a matter of which of the pair has improved the most.
October Morn has also raced just twice and he defeated Golden Sickle easily when winning his maiden, so Craig Zackey’s mount must also have some sort of chance.
Justin Snaith has two runners and they cannot be left out of the reckoning either, particularly Baltic Secret who coasted to victory on debut. This daughter of Querari put up a good time in the yielding going when beating Flying V by 3.75 lengths and with Richard Fourie, needs to be included in all bets.
There was also a lot to like about the manner of Elusive Winter’s victory on debut and he could be anything. JP van der Merwe rode him last time and he is back about the Harold Crawford and Michelle Rix-trained runner.
