Jack Milner: The scratching of Flying Carpet from Race 4 on the Vaal Classic track on Thursday has paved the way for stable companion Shah Akbar to claim the honours in this Graduation Plate over 1600m.
Flying Carpet, at one stage the highest rated maiden in the country, looked the better of the pair over this distance but he is under veterinarian treatment and has been withdrawn.
The stablemates were the joint best weighted runners but now that advantage is held by Shah Akbar alone and he now holds a 3kg edge over Alec Laird-trained Eliud.
It could be worth taking a chance and making Shah Akbar, who will be ridden by Lyle Hewitson, a banker in all bets.
Tarry does have a third string to his bow with Bowie. But he is 8.5kg under sufferance with Shah Akbar.
