Bank on Benni for good Greyville start

It will take a forward first-timer to oust all of Benni In The Area, Mount Meru and Mayor of Merrivale, out of the money in Race 1, a Maiden Plate over 1200m at Hollywoodbets Greyville on Sunday when they race on the turf track.

And while none of those mentioned stands out, simply catching the Trifecta and Quartet could land solid payouts.

Benni In The Area and Mayor Of Merrivale both showed very good pace throughout recently, and have also finished close up to promising individuals. Benni In The Area was second to promising Mexican Pete and has in-form Richard Fourie in the irons.

Mayor of Merrivale has finished runner-up to Total Surrender who went on to win two tough races.

Mount Meru could be the dark horse. He was third in a strong-form race with Common Grounds and Beach Palace coming out to win nice races, before he ran over 1000m, which was too short.

Fireflare and Torix Night, being by Futura and Vercingetorix respectively, have prominent pedigrees, but the pair have had to be gelded. Still, it would be foolish to leave a first-timer out if there is betting support.
