Ball backed to bounce in favour of Chepstow backers

Juby Ball is expected to put a Ffos Las mishap behind him and regain the winning thread in the Fitzdares Telephone "Chasing Excellence" Novices' Chase at Chepstow on Tuesday.

The seven-year-old looked an exciting prospect after making a winning bumper debut at Ffos Las in the autumn of 2023 and subsequently chased home Sixmilebridge in that sphere at Sandown, form which reads very well given what the winner has subsequently achieved.

Juby Ball was not seen in competitive action again for the best part of the year, but looked as good as ever in winning his first two starts over hurdles last winter and made a smart start to his chasing career on his first appearance of this season at Carlisle in November.

He looked poised to make it four wins on the spin when falling three fences from home in West Wales just under three weeks ago and provided that has not dented his confidence, the Evan Williams-trained gelding appears to have been found an excellent opportunity to bounce back.

The Albert Bartlett Triple Crown Series Handicap Hurdle can go the way of Robbie Llewellyn's veteran Bingoo.

The 10-year-old achieved a peak rating of 130 a couple of years ago, but having lost his way for Cumbrian trainer Jimmy Moffatt he has dropped to 119.

He made a decent start for his new trainer when second at Leicester over the Christmas period and stepping back up in trip on his favoured soft ground, Bingoo should give a good account of himself.

Newcastle punters are advised to put their faith in I C U In My Dreams in the opening Download The Raceday Ready App Mares' Open Maiden National Hunt Flat Race.

The winning point-to-pointer was unfortunate to bump into a Willie Mullins-trained runner when making her rules debut at Catterick last month and Donald McCain had planned to step her up to Listed level at Market Rasen recently before a minor setback scuppered her participation.

If she is up to that sort of level, a minor race such as this should be well within her compass.

Le Beau Madrik looks set to make it back-to-back wins at Gosforth Park in the Virgin Bet A Good Bet Novices' Hurdle.

The five-year-old picked up the silver medal in bumpers at Plumpton and Cheltenham for the Skelton team, so it was no surprise to see him make a successful hurdling debut here on Fighting Fifth here in November.

That form looks sound, with the runner-up Gaelic Rover bolting up on his return to Newcastle recently.

Le Beau Madrik holds Cheltenham Festival entries, so he really needs to be winning under a penalty if those ambitions are going to be realised.

Leeson Street is worth chancing in the BetMGM Supports Safer Gambling Fillies' Handicap at Wolverhampton.

The daughter of Street Sense was placed a couple of times in three novice outings for the now retired Alice Haynes before moving across Newmarket to join George Boughey.

She was well beaten on her stable and handicap debut here over the Christmas period, but there was more encouragement in her latest effort at Kempton.

Stepping up in trip slightly and with blinkers applied, she should be competitive under Billy Loughnane. - Press Association
