Asiye Phambile to open account

Trainer Sean Tarry was confident of a positive debut performance when Asiye Phambili made her debut at Hollywoodbets Scottsville over 1200m on 27 August.

The well-bred daughter of What A Winter showed good pace throughout and when challenged by eventual winner Palm Breeze, she never gave in. She may have lost the race by 0.75 lengths, but the more eye-catching bit is that third-placed Triptoroyalty finished 5.15 lengths back.

Triptoroyalty had plenty experience so Asiye Phambili beating her so easily augurs well for her run over the same course and distance on Sunday.

Asiye Phambili does not look to be meeting anything of substance and stands out as the best bet on the card in Race 1, a Maiden Plate for three-year-old fillies.

The colours of the Hollywood Syndicate also look to have a big chance of winning Race 2 as well with Michael Roberts-trained Isn’t She Bonny who lines up in another Maiden Plate for three-year-old fillies over 1200m.

She drifted in the betting while the money came for Spirited Flight when both made their debuts towards the end of last season. But Isn’t She Bonny had too much speed and looked to be heading for victory until Petit Verdot flashed up late to catch her, demonstrating how much race experience counts.

Isn’t She Bonny can go one better with the only danger likely to be reopposing Spirited Flight, but there are first-timers in the race and it should pay to keep close tabs on the betting market.

Trainer Yogas Govender could be on the mark in Race 3, where they have Kittyboys Girl in this Maiden Plate for fillies and mares over 1400m.

Last time out Kittyboys Girl followed up two poor runs to produce the fastest 400m to finish when trying this track and trip last time. The run represented major improvement so suggest taking Swingers and Exactas could be a good move.

The balance of the card is highly competitive but one runner who could prove hard to beat is Lunarcam, who lines up in Race 6, a MR 86 Handicap over 1000m.

This Dennis Drier-trained son of Captain Of All has a decent record at this track, having raced at Scottsville four times for three wins and a fourth place. Last time, also over this distance, he ran the opposition off their feet and hung on easily to beat Faustino by 1.20 lengths, despite hanging out over the final 200m.

He meets Faustino again, but they square up at the same weight differential and there is no reason why Lunarcam cannot beat him on this occasion as well.

Sean Veale takes the ride on the four-year-old gelding.

One other interesting runner is Successful Secret from the Brett Webber yard. This is his first run at Scottsville, but he does get 5kg from Lunarcam and with Calvin Habib up, the Judpot gelding could prove to be competitive in this line-up.
