Another green light for Kannemeyer

November 2025

Jack Milner

Tuesday’s meeting has been moved from Hollywood Scottsville to the Polytrack at HWB Greyville as the result of a waterlogged track and that has seen a large number of scratchings from the card.

However, Dean Kannemeyer has still opted to run Green Glow in Race 4 and he could still be the best bet on the card.

Kannemeyer has some exciting three-year-olds in his yard and no doubt the stable will have been satisfied with the performance of Gimmie Rules who had an excellent warm-up for the Grade 1 Cape Guineas on 13 December with a 0.50-length victory over Handsome Prince at HWB Kenilworth on Sunday.

Kannemeyer will saddle another son of Gimmethegreenlight when Green Glow takes his place in Race 4, a Class 4 Handicap over 1900m and this progressive three-year-old colt looks like a banker on the day’s card.

He was beaten in his first two starts, on debut finishing a six-length second behind Buddy Boy and following that up with another runner-up spot, this time 1.10-lengths adrift of Pied Piper.

Last time it was a different story. He did not just win, he bolted in by more than five lengths on the Greyville turf, confirming the promise of earlier efforts.

All three of those runs were over 1600m and when a trainer sends his runners out over that sort of distance from Day 1, that horse is looking for distance. So, it comes as no surprise that this time he will be stepping out 1950m.

Craig Zackey will replace Serino Moodley in the irons on this occasion.
