And the Dance to go on at Fairview

March 2023

Jack Milner

It is not often one finds a horse going for six wins in a row but that is exactly the case with And We Danced at Fairview on Friday.

This four-year-old Pathfork filly has certainly blossomed since joining Sharon Kotzen in Port Elizabeth where she has notched up a record of six wins and two places from nine starts, including winning her last five.

And We Danced arrived in her care with a modest merit rating of 72 and as a one-time winner. Jockey Louie Mxothwa knows how to get the best out of her but will need to be at the top of his game in Race 2, a Conditions Plate for fillies and mares over 1600m on the turf, as rival Belle Of Belize is well weighted to turn around the head that separated them the last time they met as there is a 2.5kg swing.

Trainer Alan Greeff's up-and-down season continues and Belle Of Belize has just one win to show for her four starts under his care.

Although weighted to get the better of And We Danced this time, a close look at the form suggests And We Danced has the better fighting spirit, having won a couple of tight finishes, while Belle Of Belize tends to lose her close tussles.

Belle Of Belize was found to be striding short last time and she could just be a better runner on the Polytrack. In fact, while still with Paul Peter on the Highveld, he used to take her down to race at Hollywoodbets Greyville where she notched up her two wins on the Polytrack.

Gavin Smith has his unbeaten Cherry Ano in Race 6, a MR 68 Handicap over 1600m, and he looks likely to pull off a hat-trick as he has looked good so far.
