Almeraq to take Garrowby Glory

Almeraq can continue his rapid ascent up the sprinting ladder with victory in the Sky Bet Starman Garrowby Stakes at York on Sunday.

The Dark Angel colt has won two of his four starts for trainer William Haggas, while his apparent preference for a little ease in the ground means he has only raced twice this term.

He was beaten at odds-on on a quick surface at Yarmouth on his seasonal debut in June, but that allowed him to move into handicaps off a mark of 90 at Ayr the following month and he could hardly have been more impressive in coming home five lengths clear of the chasing pack without being extended.

With the handicapper subsequently handing him a 15lb hike in the weights, connections are ready to test the water in stakes company and it must be noted that a tilt at Group One glory in the Betfair Sprint Cup at Haydock on Saturday was given serious consideration.

Instead he takes a more tentative and perhaps sensible step up to Listed company on the Knavesmire and with conditions on the easy side of good, Almeraq can stamp his class.

It is not too difficult to make a strong case for Almeraq's stablemate Crown Office in the curtain-raising Enter ITV7 For Free 'Confined' EBF Maiden Stakes.

The 1400m contest is restricted to horses that have only run once and this son of No Nay Never shaped with abundant promise on his solitary start at Newmarket a month ago.

Seemingly not that well fancied as a 10-1 shot, Crown Office got off to a slow start on the July course before charging home once the penny dropped to finish a neck second to the more experienced First Time, who had filled the runner-up spot on two of his three previous outings.

With the fourth home in that Newmarket maiden, Slay Queen, unbeaten in two subsequent starts, the form has a strong look to it and with normal improvement Crown Office should prove hard to beat.

Revelance looks well placed to complete her hat-trick in the Sky Bet Build A Bet Fillies' Handicap.

Following two juvenile outings, Ralph Beckett's charge opened her account at the third time of asking with a narrow success on her three-year-old debut at Salisbury in June and then stepped forward to make a mockery of an opening handicap mark of 77 at Epsom.

The daughter of Blue Point is open to further improvement and a 6lb rise looks more than fair.

Low-key jumping fare comes from Fontwell, where De Temps En Temps makes his stable debut for Martin Keighley in the Download The At The Races App Maiden Hurdle.

The six-year-old showed a decent level of form in Ireland for Gavin Cromwell, with a Fairyhouse bumper win followed by three decent efforts over obstacles.

If he can run up to his official rating of 120 on his British bow, he should make a winning start for his new connections. - Press Association
