The draw for the final field of 16 runners for the 2023 Gr2 Allied Steelrode OnAMission Charity Mile and their respective charities was held in the Bold Cherry room at Turffontein racecourse on Friday, 20 October 2023.
The Charity Mile is now worth a cool R1 million and the final field boasts a stellar lineup including 2022 Summer Cup winner Puerto Manzano, 2023 Hollywoodbets Durban July hero Winchester Mansion, dual Charity Mile winner Bingwa, Equus Champion 3yo Filly Bless My Stars and Equus Champion Stayer Future Pearl, among others.
Johan Janse van Vuuren’s runners bookend the field with Mr & Mrs C R Stonebridge’s Bingwa in pole position, while Messrs J F & L M F Wernars & Mrs T J Wernars’ Puerto Manzano drew widest of all. Winchester Mansion drew 12.
A grand total of twenty-one charities are associated with this year’s event, all of which will benefit a minimum of R20,000.
The draws and Charity pairings are as follows:-
The Charity paired with the winning horse will receive R100,000; the charity paired with the 2nd place finisher will receive R75,000; the third place finisher will earn their Charity R50,000 and the fourth horse across the line R35,000 for theirs. The remaining 17 charities will each receive a donation of R20,000.
