Aeolian looks an Ayr ace

September 2025

William Haggas will be banking on Aeolian showing the spark that saw her given a Group One entry when she lines up in the British Stallion Studs Scottish Premier Series EBF Fillies' Handicap at Ayr on Thursday.

The three-year-old daughter of Fastnet Rock, who was bred by the late Queen Elizabeth II and is owned by the King and Queen, was last seen trailing the field in the Listed Galtres Stakes at York.

Still just lightly raced, Aeolian holds an entry for the Fillies & Mares Stakes on Champions Day at Ascot next month and while that is probably unlikely, she is not one to write off just yet.

Financer will be boosted by the return to the scene of his last victory as the Tim Easterby gelding defends his Ladbrokes "Free Bet At Ayr" Kilkerran Handicap crown.

The four-year-old has been knocking on the door all season without getting into the winner's enclosure, finishing runner-up three times in nine starts.

His mark of 83 is only 2lb higher than last year and it could be a return to the Scottish coastal racecourse for the first time since landing this class two contest 12 months ago will be the tonic he needs to get his nose back in front.

Spinning Wheel should learn from his experience in the Queen's Vase at Royal Ascot to lead the way in the Tennent's Lager Handicap.

The Simon and Ed Crisford-trained three-year-old won his first two starts before jumping up to Group Two company in June, where he finished down the field in what has proved to be a strong renewal.

He has not been seen since, but a drop in class and reduction in runners could point towards a third triumph in four starts for the son of Postponed.

First Folio aims to maintain his impressive record at Yarmouth as he bids to successfully defend his Boodles Handicap title.

Julie Camacho's grey landed the class three crown by three-quarters of a length last year to make it three wins and a third-placed finish in four starts on the Norfolk coast.

Adjuvant can justify top-weight in the Goffs Two Million Series Handicap for trainer Michael Bell.

The six-year-old has had two runs since returning from 287 days off and is edging closer to full race fitness, and he is 3lb lower than his last winning mark, albeit that came in May 2023.

He's Waliim should put his disappointing Solario Stakes run behind him in a competitive Juddmonte British EBF Restricted Novice Stakes at Kempton.

The Too Darn Hot colt, trained by James Tate, tried Group Three company last time out, but rounded up the six-runner field at Sandown and he now turns his attention to the all-weather in a bid to regain some momentum.

George Scott is targeting a second successive all-weather victory with Moonlight Mirage in the Unibet More Extra Place Races Fillies' Novice Stakes.

Despite a 7lb penalty for her triumph at Wolverhampton earlier this month, that experience should help her trump her rivals and progression can continue for the daughter of Acclamation.

Staying on the all-weather at Chelmsford, the Haggas-trained Forever Penywern targets successive wins in the Bet At Your Best With Betfair Selling Stakes.

The Somerville Lodge trainer also has a live chance with Silver Chamber in the Ben And Mary Hibbert Memorial Handicap at Pontefract. - Press Association
