A Reunion for Kennedy

December 2021

This Flower Alley colt could be Peter’s title-chasing weapon.

We are five months into 2020/21 season and in the race for the trainers’ championship it is Justin Snaith who holds a narrow lead.

The trainers’ race is based on stake money and we all know those figures have been negatively influenced by problems in the racing industry.

At the time of writing Snaith is just R194,875 ahead of Paul Peter on stakes claimed for both wins and places. However, if one looks at the win stakes in isolation, it is Peter who holds a R32,225 lead over his Cape counterpart.

Snaith has saddled 559 runners for 87 winners while Peter has sent out 413 runners, which has produced 56 winners.

Peter is currently in the Cape with a group of horses, which includes unbeaten Horse-Of-The-Year Summer Pudding. She could help him hold his own through the tough Cape summer season but when he returns to the Highveld, Peter could accelerate his thrust for the title.

One horse who could be at the forefront of that attack is Reunion.

The three-year-old son of Flower Alley has raced only once, but he could not have been more impressive, storming home over 1600m on the Turffontein Inside track to beat Silver Tycoon by 10.25 lengths.

Three winners have come from that form line. Silver Tycoon, who won his next start by 6.25 lengths, third-placed Pamushana’s Pride and fifth-placed Savannah Storm all went on to win their next races.

So, it with much excitement and expectations that we await Reunion’s second run in Race 8 at Turffontein tomorrow. He contests a MR 98 Handicap for three-year-olds over 1600m on the Standside track this time.

It comes as no surprise he has been chalked up as the 9-20 favourite with only Paul Matchett-trained Bold Jazz considered a serious contender. Once again Warren Kennedy takes the ride.

Peter also sends out well-bred newcomer Grimaldi in Race 4, a Maiden Plate over 1600m. This son of Dynasty out of Rock Of Gibraltar mare Europa Point is highly thought of by the yard and needs to be included in all bets. Once again, Kennedy rides.
