The Grade 1 Cape Guineas is scheduled to be run on 17 December and racing fans will be keeping an eye on the three-year-old colts with the potential to win this Grade 1 race.
One runner who will come into the spotlight at Hollywoodbets Durbanville on Tuesday is Triple Time, who lines up in Race 7, a Classified Stakes over 1600m.
Trained by Justin Snaith, the Twice Over colt drifted from an opening call of 9-4 to start at around 5-1 on debut over 1600m at Kenilworth on 31 July so clearly the expectations were that he could need the experience. He did lose ground at the start but ran on well late to finish a 4.50-length fifth behind Galactic Star.
Three winners have come from that form line and among them was Triple Time who certainly learned a lot from his first outing.
That came one month later over 1400m at Kenilworth. He again conceded ground at the start, but this time made it up in style and despite being 5.20 lengths back with 400m to run, took off late to beat Sudden Song by 4.25 lengths.
One shouldn’t take too much notice that he is only the fifth best weighted runner in this line-up because he is likely to be quite a lot better than his current merit rating of 90.
This grey colt looks an exciting prospect and with Richard Fourie up again, he does stand out as the best bet on the card.
He will have to carry 62kg but the step-up to 1600m should suit and from a good draw he could be the exotic banker we need on the day.
Hopefully he has got out of his habit of jumping slowly when he races at Durbanville as it might prove costly at this course.
