The card at Scottsville on Sunday will challenge punters but at least they can get off to a decent start with Captain Tatters in Race 1.
He was once regarded as a sprinter headed for the top by trainer Justin Snaith and it is amazing to see Captain Tatters running in a Workriders Conditional Graduation over 1200m.
Snaith was not far off the mark as the Gimmethegreenlight gelding has run Grade 1 Computaform Sprint champion and stablemate Rio Querari to 0.70 lengths, and even though he has not won in 11 starts since his debut victory, he should really destroy the field he meets on Sunday at Hollywoodbets Scottsville.
Stella Act, Go Man Go and Ziva La Winter all look certain to follow him home as all mentioned are useful so banker the Captain with those mentioned to get the Trifectas and Quartets.
Captain Tatters is in KwaZulu-Natal for the season and this looks to be a confidence-building race before an assault on the big prizes so he is unlikely to jump at a great price.
Another runner who has been meeting strong fields is Wishful Girl Linn. Linngari’s progeny have not done badly considering the quality of mares he seems to be getting and Wishful Girl Linn, having placed in top division races, looks like the best of them.
She runs in Race 7, a MR 76 Handicap for fillies and mares over 1600m where the average merit rating is 74, and after running in races where the average has been 90 and 93, she should really feel at home. Another plus is that she tends to get going late at Greyville and therefore should enjoy the longer straight at Scottsville.
Her earlier form at Scottsville was fair considering her rating then and with maturity she should finally add a win from this racing centre. It is a wide-open race with Silver Maria looking a big danger so expected a decent price about Wishful Girl Linn’s chances.
Other runners expected to go close are Victory Twist (Race 4) and Spydas Corner (Race 8).
